I watched the movie Zeitgeist this week (perhaps I live in a cave… it seems a lot of people have seen this). Anyway… it’s a very compelling film. It brought up a lot of new perspectives for me. I was blown away. I’m not sure that I buy into it all, but I was riveted. Even though I think some of it is a bit far-fetched, it was definitely thought-provoking. And I really think that’s the intent of the film… to wake us up and get us thinking.
With Presidents’ Day coming up, we’ve been studying the role of president and a couple notable presidents. Today one of my students asked if I knew about any other presidents. (LOL… kids are great.) I explained that I knew about a lot of presidents… that we’ve had some good presidents and some bad presidents… and that the reason we focus on Washington and Lincoln in second grade is because they were an important part in gaining our freedom… freedom from England and freedom from slavery. We also discussed how important freedom is.
We have a long history of fighting for freedom and civil rights. But now, with a country in constant turmoil over so many issues, we turn the other cheek and go on about our business. America is broken. Our government is ruining us as a country and as humans. When are we going to get mad enough to stand up for our civil liberties… to start the next revolution… to be a part of what once made this country great? When will we stop wondering who the next American Idol will be and who the next presidential robot will be and actually DO SOMETHING about this mess?
Complacency is killing us.
Laughing so hard, I just might pee...
